At PBS we offer a wide range of stylish PVCu cladding, from tongue and groove effect to shiplap and open V. Available in white and foiled woodgrain to create a variety of visual effects.
Cladding refers to the external layer of the building which provides the aesthetic effect. Apart from the external appearance of the building, its main use is to protect the building structure from the weather and helps with the property insulation. Traditionally timber products were the way to go, but nowadays, the availability of PVCu is taking over, as it offers low maintenance material and an interesting alternative to timber.
Woodgrain Textured External Cladding
Cellular PVC cladding that simulates the patterns of a traditional timber board is an ideal substitute for timber cladding; it will not discolour, retains its appearance, is virtually maintenance free and is weather resistant. The perfect choice.
What are the different types of external UPVC Cladding?
The primary varieties of UPVC cladding include Shiplap, Open V Joint, and Featheredge. Each variety shields your home from the elements and offers the opportunity to enhance the visual appeal of your property or substitute deteriorating timber boards. Shiplap cladding's design facilitates water drainage, making it a popular choice for extensive projects or where an overlapping design is favoured. Open V joint cladding differs slightly, featuring a recognisable symmetrical V joint that provides a modern look. Meanwhile, Featheredge is crafted to imitate the traditional appearance of timber cladding without the need for regular upkeep.
How do I install external PVC cladding?
External PVC cladding not only enhances the appearance of your home but also adds an additional layer of protection against the elements. It serves as an excellent alternative to traditional timber, offering comparable aesthetics while requiring minimal maintenance and boasting durability. Moreover, it's DIY-friendly, allowing you to save both time and money on installation.
Thorough preparation is essential for successful installation. You'll need a sturdy substrate, high-quality battens (preferably treated timber), insulation if necessary, and a vapour membrane. When replacing existing cladding, ensure all old materials are removed before commencing installation of the new cladding.
It's crucial to consider the differences between white and coloured/foil cladding for a safe and effective installation, as the installation instructions vary slightly for each.
How do you measure UPVC external cladding?
Basic square areas can be calculated by measuring the height and width of the area and then multiplying by the appropriate factors based on the chosen profile:
a.100mm claddings; m² x 2 = number of lengths required to cover that area.
b. 125mm claddings; m² x 1.6 = number of lengths required to cover that area.
c. 150mm claddings; m² x 1.4 = number of lengths required to cover that area.
d. 300mm claddings; m² x 0.7 = number of lengths required to cover that area.
For example, cladding an area of 6m wide x 3m high in 150mm Shiplap = 9m² x 1.4 = 12.6 = 13 x 5m length.
If the area contains windows, doors, or other non-clad sections, you can calculate them similarly but subtract them from the total length required. These calculations don't consider wastage from cutting on-site or the need for offcuts and joints to maintain a consistent design. Drawing a sketch of the area, including non-clad sections, and allocating lengths accordingly will help identify where offcuts can be optimally utilized.
